Seaspan is investing $200 million into its shipyard facilities to support this. Construction began in October 2012 and will result in the completion of four new fabrication buildings, a 300-ton shipbuilding gantry crane and load-out pier by late 2014.

Your future career opportunity

The Program Director is responsible for oversight and direction of a new construction vessel program that is designed and constructed under the Federal Fleet Renewal Program (FFRP).  The position is responsible to coordinate Seaspan Shipyards and external resources in support of meeting specific program cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals.  This position is responsible for program performance from vessel inception through to contract completion.  Reporting in to the Vice President Program Management, the Program Director is supported by a staff of Deputy Program Managers and analysts as dictated by program size and complexity.

As Program Director you will be responsible for overseeing and directing new construction program activities including, but not limited to, estimating, contracts, planning, design, procurement, production, testing, and warranty.  You will also be accountable for program profit and loss performance.

You will be required to develop and implement a comprehensive set of program metrics to measure departmental program performance.  Reporting departmental program performance to senior management, identifying variances from the plan, and assisting in developing and monitoring corrective actions. Our Director, Program Management will also serve as Seaspan Shipyard’s representative for resolution of program issues with Government representatives, FFRP partners, key suppliers and subcontractors.

To be successful in this role

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business.  Master’s degree highly desirable. 
  • Several years program management experience at a senior level, preferably in the shipbuilding industry.
  • Extensive number of year professional experience in the shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction industry, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility.
  • Exceptional program management and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate an organization in support of program goals.
  • Strong technical skills with demonstrated understanding of modern shipbuilding design, procurement and production techniques.
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling systems and resource planning techniques.
  • Knowledge of Government contract administration procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Good judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to work with limited direction.
