Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards has been selected under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS) to be Canada’s long-term partner for the building of Non-Combat vessels. This multi-billion dollar program will create stable work over the next decade and beyond, and see the construction of up to 17 ships to start (three Offshore Fisheries Science Vessels, one Offshore Oceanographic Science Vessel, one Polar Icebreaker, two Joint Support Ships, five Medium Endurance Multi-Tasked Vessels and five Offshore Patrol Vessels).

Seaspan is investing $200 million into its shipyard facilities to support this. Construction began in October 2012 and will result in the completion of four new fabrication buildings, a 300-ton shipbuilding gantry crane and load-out pier by late 2014.

Your future career opportunity

The Manufacturing Information Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that all manufacturing information required by production to complete the work needed is available to them. The role requires the collection, printing, checking and issuing of full and comprehensive manufacturing information to the operational teams including shop orders, design drawings, work instructions, material lists, safety information and all other relevant material. The Manufacturing Information Coordinator reports to the Manager, Production Control.

  • Ensures that all manufacturing information and data required is collected, printed, reviewed, checked, kitted and prepared for issue to production within the Planning and Production Control time fence rules.
  • Liaises between different departments and intra-departmental functions regarding the administration of the work package information preparation and kitting.
  • Expedites issues, problems and omissions from the work packages whenever they might occur and communicates with all parties affected.
  • Supports other department personnel including Detail Planners, Production Control Technologists and Progress Data Technologists as and when required.

To be successful in this role

  • Minimum of completion of Grade 12 education.
  • Construction Trade Certificate preferable.
  • Minimum of 2 year’s administrative and/or document control experience in a manufacturing organisation, preferably in the shipbuilding industry.
  • Strong administrative skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and good communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Experience with ERP system data processing and administration a distinct advantage.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings an advantage.
