Payroll Assistant

United Hydrocarbon International Corp. (“UHIC” or the “Company”) is a Canadian based, internationally focused oil and gas exploration and Development Company with oil and gas assets in Africa. Activity is focused in the Republic of Chad in central Africa, where the company has four blocks encompassing approximately 5.3 million acres, under one Production Sharing Contract.  The Company is focused on early-stage production from known oil discoveries in the Doba Basin with cash flow to be used on the Company’s contract area. The resource potential of the Doba Basin DOC/DOD and the Lake Chad Block provides the foundation for significant growth and value creation through exploration and development drilling.

Position Summary

The Payroll Assistant reports to Sr. Payroll and Benefits Advisor on all aspects of the job while working closely with other members of the Human Resources Team to assist in multiple activities relating to company semi-monthly payroll functions and benefits administration.

Payroll Assistant Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and administration of payroll on a semi-monthly basis while complying with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and federal/provincial regulations;
  • Assist with reconciling payroll records and resolve PEIR reports deficiencies ensuring no penalties are owed;
  • Assist in Issuing ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports including all year end processing
  • Respond to inquiries arising from questions about payroll;
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements;
  • Organize and maintain employee payroll files and HR database (filing, scanning, and photocopying documents ensuring accuracy and timeliness the electronic and hard paper files);
  • Assist with submitting Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) Annual Return while complying with AB WCB regulations;
  • Assist in the administration of employee programs (e.g. health benefits, life, AD&D, RSP/Savings Plan etc.);
  • Participate in required meetings providing input and recommendations on payroll and benefits processes;
  • Stay current with payroll regulations, standards and work methods;
  • Adhere to organizational policies and procedures;
  • Other projects as assigned.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Accounting Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution;
  • PCP Certificate or working towards certification an asset;
  • 2 years related experience in payroll;
  • Previous experience in the Oil and Gas Industry an asset;
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office software, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of income tax forms, health benefits programs, retirement plans;
  • Must be able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner;
  • Aptitude to work on multiple projects within established deadlines and time constraints, supporting a variety of individuals;
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management and multi-tasking skill.
